What is WebP?
WebP is a modern image format that supports lossy and lossless compression, animation and alpha transparency. It is widely used for efficient web images, although some applications and older workflows still expect JPG files.
Why convert WebP to JPG?
JPG is broadly supported by photo editors, document tools, social platforms and older software. Converting can make a WebP photo easier to use in those applications without resizing or changing its pixel dimensions.
WebP vs JPG
Both formats can use lossy compression for photographs. WebP often stores similar visual detail in a smaller file and can support transparency, while JPG has wider compatibility and no alpha channel. The resulting size depends on the source image and chosen JPG quality.
What happens to transparency?
JPG cannot store transparent pixels. Before encoding, this tool fills the canvas with your selected white, black or custom background color, then draws the WebP over it so transparent areas have an explicit color rather than turning black unexpectedly.
How JPG quality affects file size
A lower quality setting usually produces a smaller file with more visible compression, while a higher setting retains more detail and often creates a larger file. The tool reports the actual output size and does not promise a fixed reduction.
Is conversion private?
Yes. Validation, decoding, background compositing, JPG encoding, previews and downloads happen in your browser. Image bytes, filenames, dimensions, colors and metadata are not uploaded or included in analytics.
How to convert WebP to JPG
Choose a JPG quality and background color, then select or drop up to 20 WebP files. The browser converts them sequentially, after which you can download one JPG or the completed batch.
How to use
- Choose a quality from 60 to 100 and select a white, black or custom background color.
- Drop WebP files into the upload area or choose Select WebP files.
- Wait for local conversion, then download individual JPG files or the completed batch.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert WebP to JPG?
Choose your JPG settings, then drop a WebP file into the tool or select it from your device. Conversion starts locally and the result card provides a JPG download.
Does JPG support transparency?
No. JPG has no alpha transparency channel, so every output pixel must have a visible color.
What happens to transparent WebP images?
Transparent and semi-transparent areas are composited over the background color you select before the browser encodes the JPG.
Can I choose the background color?
Yes. White is the default, and you can choose black or use the color picker for a custom background before adding images.
What JPG quality should I use?
The default quality of 90 is a balanced starting point for many images. Lower it for a potentially smaller file or raise it when retaining fine detail matters more than size.
Are my images uploaded?
No. The files are decoded, composited and encoded entirely in your browser. No image upload or external processing API is used.
Can I convert multiple WebP files?
Yes. You can process up to 20 files in one batch, subject to the 25 MB per-file, 100 MB batch and 50 megapixel limits.
Does conversion reduce image quality?
JPG encoding is lossy, so it can discard some image detail. The quality control lets you choose the tradeoff, and the tool does not resize the image.
Can I use this on mobile?
Yes. Select WebP images through your mobile browser's file picker. Conversion speed and available memory depend on the device.
