Convert PDF to editable Word

This PDF to Word converter uses text positions, page geometry and font information to infer editable paragraphs, headings, lists and simple tables. It generates a real DOCX rather than putting all extracted text in one paragraph. Existing text must be extractable from the PDF.

Editable structure or closer layout

Editable prioritizes useful paragraphs and document structure. Preserve layout keeps more original line breaks and page grouping. Supported two-column pages become Word columns, and embedded images are placed in approximate reading order. Source page breaks are preserved, although Word can repaginate as fonts and spacing change.

What formatting can change

Best-effort editable conversion. Complex layouts may vary. Merged tables, overlapping text, vector graphics, annotations and unusual fonts can need manual cleanup. Simple table cells are inferred from repeated aligned positions, and repeated running headers and footers are moved out of body text when detected. PDF fonts are approximated with common Word fonts.

Scanned PDFs need OCR

Pages with little or no extractable text are detected before conversion. OCR is not included. A wholly scanned PDF cannot produce editable text here; choose Preserve layout only if you want page pictures in a Word document. Mixed documents retain editable text on text-based pages and pictures for scanned pages.

Private processing with safeguards

Your PDF is processed locally and never uploaded. PDF parsing uses a local browser worker, and DOCX packaging runs in a disposable worker where available. Choose one PDF up to 100 MB and 200 pages. Limits on text fragments, image pixels, generated image bytes and DOCX size protect browser memory. Password-protected files require an unlocked copy.

How to use

  1. Choose or drop one PDF and wait for the document analysis.
  2. Review the detected document type and warnings, then choose Editable or Preserve layout.
  3. Convert, download the Word document, and check formatting before sharing.

Frequently asked questions

Is PDF to Word free?

Yes. Convert supported PDFs to DOCX without an account or payment.

Are files uploaded?

No. Parsing, reconstruction, image processing and Word generation happen locally. Filenames, extracted text, exact sizes and PDF metadata are excluded from analytics.

Will formatting be preserved?

Common paragraphs, headings, lists, font sizes and simple tables can be reconstructed. Complex layouts may vary. Preserve layout keeps more line breaks; it does not promise pixel-perfect fidelity.

Can scanned PDFs be converted?

OCR is required for editable scanned text and is not included here. Scanned pages are identified clearly. Preserve layout can place page pictures inside DOCX, with no claim that their text is editable.

Can tables be preserved?

Simple tables with repeated aligned cells can become actual Word tables. Merged cells, nested tables and irregular layouts may need manual cleanup.

Is the Word document editable?

Reconstructed text, headings, lists and table cells are editable. Embedded images and scanned-page pictures remain images. Word pagination can differ from the PDF.
