a new random password.
Passwords are generated locally in your browser and are never sent to our servers.
What makes a password strong?
A randomly generated password becomes harder to guess as its length and available character pool grow. The estimate shown here accounts for your chosen character sets and the requirement to include each selected type.
Choosing a password length
The default is 16 random characters. Longer passwords provide more possibilities, when the service accepts them. Avoid personal details and predictable substitutions.
Use a different password for every account
Reusing a password lets a breach on one service put other accounts at risk. A password manager can store unique passwords so you do not have to memorize them.
Passphrases vs passwords
A passphrase uses several randomly selected words and can be easier to type. This tool generates character-based passwords; it does not generate word-based passphrases.
How to use
- Choose a length and the character types a service accepts.
- Select Generate password.
- Copy the result into your password manager or the account form.
Frequently asked questions
What is a secure password length?
This tool defaults to 16 random characters. Length, randomness and unique use all matter; follow the service’s requirements.
Is this password generator safe?
It uses your browser’s cryptographic random-number generator with unbiased character selection. Generation and copying happen locally.
Are generated passwords stored?
No. They live only in the current page’s memory. They are not sent to a server, saved in browser storage or included in analytics.
Should every account use a different password?
Yes. Unique passwords prevent one exposed password from unlocking multiple accounts.
What characters should a strong password contain?
Use the character types supported by the service. This tool includes at least one character from every selected type.
