Reduce embedded image size without flattening text

This PDF compressor downsamples and recompresses supported JPEG and RGB/grayscale raster images. It preserves text and vector layers rather than turning every page into a picture. Images with transparency masks, unusual color spaces or unsupported encodings are kept unchanged to protect their appearance.

Recommended, Smaller and target size

Recommended balances image quality and size. Smaller uses stronger image recompression. Target size tries up to five quality and resolution settings, stopping when the target is reached or the safeguards are exhausted. Page count, page dimensions and orientation stay unchanged.

When large savings are possible

Photo-heavy and scanned PDFs often contain large raster images that can be reduced. Text-heavy documents and already optimized files may shrink only a little or not at all. If the generated file is not smaller, the exact original is retained. Review small text in scans before sharing a compressed copy.

Private processing with browser limits

Your PDF is processed locally and never uploaded. Processing runs in a browser worker, with limits of 100 MB and 200 pages. Images over the decoded pixel budget are kept unchanged. Digital signatures may be invalidated by any PDF rewrite; do not use compression as a way to preserve a signed document.

How to use

  1. Choose one PDF, up to 100 MB and 200 pages.
  2. Select Recommended, Smaller or Target size, then choose Compress PDF.
  3. Compare the measured sizes and download the result. Review it before sharing.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a PDF online?

Choose your PDF, select a compression strategy and compress it. The process happens in your browser; download the result when it is ready.

Can I compress PDF to 200 KB or 500 KB?

Choose Target size and select 200 KB or 500 KB. The tool attempts progressively stronger image optimization, but the target may be unreachable without sacrificing readability or changing unsupported content.

Can I compress PDF to 1 MB?

Yes, select the 1 MB target preset. The closest achieved size is shown if the target cannot be reached within the quality safeguards.

Will text remain selectable?

Existing text and vector layers are preserved. The compressor does not rasterize pages. A scanned page that originally contains only an image does not gain selectable text.

Why did my PDF not get smaller?

It may already be optimized, contain mostly text, or use images with encodings or transparency that this engine deliberately leaves unchanged. The original is retained if the result is not smaller.

Are PDFs uploaded or sent to analytics?

No. The file is processed locally in a worker. Filenames, exact file sizes, target sizes and document contents or metadata are never included in analytics.

Are password-protected PDFs supported?

No. Use an unlocked copy that you are authorized to access.
