Fit

Padding is applied on each side. Contain keeps the whole image; Cover crops it to fill the square.

Your image is processed in your browser and is never uploaded.

Your ICO

Upload one image to generate a real multi-size ICO and optional favicon package.

What is an ICO file?

ICO is an icon container that can hold several resolutions in one file. This PNG to ICO converter writes six PNG-encoded entries: 16, 32, 48, 64, 128 and 256 pixels square. It does not simply rename a PNG. Modern icon consumers can choose an entry suited to their display; older software expecting BMP-only ICO entries may not support this output.

How to convert PNG to ICO

Upload one PNG, JPG, WebP or safe SVG logo. Choose Contain to keep the entire image or Cover to crop it to a square. Optional padding is applied to each side, and a solid background can replace transparency. Download ICO directly; the full favicon package is optional.

What ICO sizes should I include?

The generated favicon.ico includes 16×16, 32×32, 48×48, 64×64, 128×128 and 256×256 entries. Small icons lose fine detail, so review the actual 16px and 32px previews rather than relying only on the large logo. Enlarging a small source cannot recover missing detail.

What favicon sizes do websites need?

This package supplies an ICO plus 16×16, 32×32 and 48×48 PNGs. Site and platform needs vary; it is a practical starting set, not a guarantee of every device's requirements. A simple, high-contrast mark generally stays clearer at favicon scale than a full wordmark.

ICO vs PNG favicon

PNG holds a single raster size and supports alpha transparency. ICO bundles multiple sizes together. This generator preserves transparency by default and offers PNG files alongside the multi-size ICO, letting you declare both in your HTML.

Apple touch icon size

The package includes apple-touch-icon.png at 180×180. Add its link tag to the page head. Platform presentation may apply its own background or rounding, so review the installed icon as well as the downloaded file.

Android and PWA icon sizes

icon-192.png and icon-512.png are included. The optional web app manifest references both and uses standalone display. These are ordinary square icons, not guaranteed maskable icons. Icon files and a manifest alone do not guarantee that a website meets every browser's installation requirements.

How to add a favicon to a website

Upload the generated files to your website root and copy the supplied link tags into the HTML head. Include the manifest tag only if you enable and upload site.webmanifest. If your files live elsewhere, adjust the paths. Browser icon caches can delay a visible update.

Local processing and limits

Your image is decoded and resized in your browser and is never uploaded. Files are limited to 10 MB, 16 megapixels and 8,192 pixels per edge; SVG is limited to 256 KB and 500 basic elements. Sources are normalized to at most 512 pixels before icon generation. SVG scripts, external resources, CSS, filters, embedded images and other unsupported constructs are rejected. Use a PNG export for complex SVGs.

How to use

  1. Upload one PNG, JPG, WebP or basic self-contained SVG.
  2. Choose fit, background and padding, then inspect the live size previews.
  3. Download favicon.ico, or optionally download the complete ZIP and copy the HTML tags.

Frequently asked questions

Is this a real multi-size ICO?

Yes. The ICO container contains six separate PNG-encoded images, from 16×16 to 256×256. The file is not a renamed PNG.

Do I need to download the whole favicon package?

No. Download ICO is the primary action and works independently of the optional package.

Does my image leave my browser?

No. Decoding, resizing, ICO creation and ZIP generation run locally. Analytics excludes filenames, dimensions, colors, app names and generated contents.

Can I use a rectangular logo?

Yes. Contain preserves the whole logo with space around it; Cover crops it to fill the square. Padding leaves extra room on each side.

Why was my SVG rejected?

Only bounded self-contained SVG shapes and gradients are accepted. Scripts, styles, external references, embedded images and unsupported constructs are rejected. Export the artwork as PNG and try again.

Does the package make my site a PWA?

No. The optional manifest and app icons are integration assets. Installation and other PWA features depend on your site and browser.
