What is a SIP?
A systematic investment plan (SIP) is an arrangement to invest a recurring amount at regular intervals. This calculator estimates monthly contributions; it does not select an investment or predict market performance.
How does the SIP Calculator work?
Enter a monthly amount, an expected annual return and a period. The estimate updates immediately when all inputs are valid. The estimate assumes each contribution is made at the end of the month. The annual percentage is divided by 12 to obtain a constant monthly rate; it is not converted from an effective annual yield.
SIP formula
Let P be the monthly investment, r = annual return ÷ 12 ÷ 100, and n = years × 12. Estimated future value = P × ((1 + r)^n − 1) ÷ r. At zero return, future value = P × n. Total invested = P × n; estimated returns = future value − total invested. No beginning-of-month multiplier is applied.
Worked example
Investing ₹10,000 at the end of each month for 10 years at an assumed 12% annual return gives ₹12,00,000.00 total invested, ₹11,00,386.89 estimated returns and ₹23,00,386.89 estimated future value over 120 months. These are illustrative estimates under the stated convention, not guaranteed returns.
SIP vs lump sum
A SIP adds money over time; a lump sum invests an amount at the start. Each monthly SIP contribution has a different time to grow. The SIP formula therefore differs from applying compound growth to the entire sum on day one. This tool calculates recurring monthly investments only.
What does expected return mean?
Expected return is an assumption you supply, not a promised rate. Real investment values can rise or fall, and returns vary from month to month. A constant-rate estimate cannot model those changes or tell you which investment to choose.
Assumptions and limitations
V1 uses INR and equal monthly contributions, with no missed payments or step-ups. It excludes taxes, fees, inflation and withdrawals. Supported inputs are a positive monthly amount up to ₹1,00,00,000, a return from 0% to 50%, and up to 50 years in whole-month increments. Negative-return scenarios are not supported. Fractional years must represent whole months; the yearly table includes any final partial year. Figures are rounded to two decimals for display, not during calculation.
How to use
- Enter your monthly investment, expected annual return and investment period.
- View the live estimate and invested-versus-return breakdown as you adjust valid inputs.
- Review the yearly table and assumptions; use Reset Calculator to set all inputs to zero.
Frequently asked questions
Are SIP returns guaranteed?
No. This is a constant-rate estimate for information only. Actual investment returns can vary and losses are possible.
Are contributions made at the start or end of the month?
This calculator uses end-of-month contributions. Each contribution starts earning the assumed return after it is made; there is no extra beginning-of-month growth multiplier.
What happens if I enter 0% return?
Estimated returns are zero and estimated future value equals the sum of your monthly contributions.
Does the estimate include tax or inflation?
No. Taxes, investment fees and inflation are excluded. Check actual product terms and your own circumstances separately.
Are my investment amounts sent to a server?
The SIP calculation runs in your browser. Its custom analytics event does not include your investment amount, return assumption or period.
