Up to 20 files, 25 MB each and 100 MB per batch. Large images over 50 megapixels are rejected to protect browser memory.

Image dimensions and visual orientation are preserved. Actual savings depend on the source and selected quality; the original is retained when recompression is not smaller.

What is a JPEG Compressor?

A JPEG compressor re-encodes JPG and JPEG images at a selected quality to reduce their storage size. This tool processes batches inside your browser, reports measured savings and retains the original whenever recompression would create a larger file.

How JPEG compression works

JPEG represents photographs using lossy compression. Browser decoding produces the visually oriented pixels, and the selected quality controls how much detail the new JPEG encoder retains. Dimensions and aspect ratio remain unchanged.

JPEG quality vs file size

Lower quality usually creates a smaller file with more visible compression. Higher quality generally retains more detail and produces a larger file. Results depend on the source image, so the tool shows actual sizes rather than promising a fixed reduction.

Does JPEG compression reduce image quality?

Yes. JPEG recompression is lossy and can discard image detail, especially at lower settings or after repeated saves. Quality 85 is the default balanced starting point, while 70 favors size and 95 favors detail.

What happens to EXIF metadata?

Canvas recompression creates a new JPEG without the source camera, software and other embedded EXIF metadata. If the new JPEG is not smaller, this tool retains the original file, which may still contain metadata. Metadata removal does not by itself guarantee anonymity.

JPEG vs PNG compression

JPEG is usually better suited to photographs and uses adjustable lossy compression. PNG is lossless and supports transparency, making it useful for screenshots, icons and graphics. Converting a PNG to JPEG is different from recompressing an existing JPEG.

How to reduce JPG file size

Choose a quality, then select or drop up to 20 JPG or JPEG files. Review the actual output size and percentage saved before downloading individual images or the completed batch. Lower the quality if you need a smaller result and the visual change is acceptable.

Is browser-based JPEG compression private?

The files are validated, decoded, re-encoded, previewed and downloaded locally in your browser. Image bytes, filenames, dimensions, EXIF data, exact quality and compression ratios are not uploaded or included in analytics.

How to use

  1. Choose a quality from 50 to 100, or use the 70, 85 or 95 preset.
  2. Drop JPG or JPEG files into the upload area, or choose Select JPEG files.
  3. Review each measured result, then download one compressed image or the completed batch.

Frequently asked questions

How do I compress a JPEG image?

Choose a quality, then drop a JPG or JPEG into the tool or select it from your device. The browser processes it locally and displays the measured result before download.

What JPEG quality should I use?

Quality 85 is a balanced starting point. Try 70 when reducing size matters more, or 95 when retaining fine detail is the priority. Inspect important output before replacing the original.

Does JPEG compression reduce quality?

Yes. JPEG is a lossy format, so recompression can remove detail. The effect is usually more visible at lower quality settings and after repeated compression.

Can I compress multiple JPG files?

Yes. You can process up to 20 images sequentially in one batch, subject to the 25 MB per-file, 100 MB batch and 50 megapixel limits.

Are my images uploaded?

No. Validation, decoding, recompression, previews and downloads happen entirely in your browser. No image upload or external processing API is used.

Does compression remove EXIF metadata?

Recompressed outputs are newly encoded without the source EXIF metadata. If recompression is larger, the original is retained and may still contain its metadata, so review that case separately.

Why did my JPEG not get smaller?

The source may already be efficiently compressed, or the selected quality may require more data than the original. When that happens, the tool keeps the original and reports that no smaller output was achieved.

Can I compress JPG images on mobile?

Yes. Select images through your mobile browser's file picker. Available memory and processing speed depend on the device.

What is the difference between JPG and JPEG?

JPG and JPEG are filename extensions for the same image format. The shorter .jpg extension became common on systems that historically limited extensions to three characters.
